A wedding rehearsal is a wonderful thing! Sure, it is one more item to plan for and (yikes) pay for...but...they are important.
Your rehearsal is a time to review the ceremony, the entrance, the exit, the seating of the parents, who stands where and how they should stand for the best pictures. It's a time to make sure everyone is reading off of the same wedding day play book and that when you leave the rehearsal you are relaxed, calm and excited for your wedding day.
Now, what do you do at a wedding rehearsal? Well, yes you rehearse your wedding ceremony but there is a bit more - you create memories and a sense of ease and relaxation for all involved.
Of coarse you can have a wedding without a rehearsal and it can even be a wonderful relaxed event, but it is my opinion that it is always best to heir on the side of caution.
So, what do I do for the wedding rehearsal? Let me take you through a typical rehearsal that I run.
- Before your rehearsal I will ask you to complete a worksheet; on the worksheet you will list your bridesmaids and groomsmen in the order that they will walk down the aisle, this is backward order, your maid of honor and bestman will be the last to walk down the aisle before a flower girl and rig bearer.
- I will arrive to your rehearsal and introduce myself to everyone in attendance - wait, who should attend? Everyone that is walking down the aisle or has a moving part in your ceremony. Now, I will introduce myself to everyone and let them know that we will be practicing your ceremony, we will first stand at the "alter" area in the proper order, we will run through the highlights of your ceremony and then we will practice our exit and entrance.
- So, let's begin. Everyone walks to the alter area and I line them up in the proper order: bride is on the right and groom is on the left. We will review who is sitting front row for both the bridal side and groom side. We will run through the highlights of your ceremony practicing any moving parts i.e. candle lighting, winebox, etc. Then we will practice the exit, next we will turn around and practice the entrance...see everyone knows where they are to stand now.
- Once we have practiced our entrance and all are in place I will ask if you would like to run through it again or if you have any questions. I will then turn to the parents and ask how it looked and if they think we should address anything - this is there moment to comment, it does not mean we will do as they say but we will take it under consideration.
- Once we are well rehearsed I will make my exit, leaving you to attend to a dinner or drinks if you have anything planned.
All said and done it usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to do a rehearsal.
I recommend you advise all who will attend to be 10 minutes early (that way they are on time). Also, bring a faux bouquet and anything else we will use during the ceremony...practice makes perfect!
Lastly you may have noticed that I charge an al a cart fee to attend and run your rehearsal. I do this so you have a choice, if the site has a coordinator that will run your rehearsal then we should talk through

This oasis if you will is a magnificent tented area that is like your own secret amazing wedding ceremony location.
It was beautiful, made more lovely by the amazing couple that was married in this very spot!
This weekend I had the pleasure of presiding over a wedding at Twin Lakes. The facility is beautiful with a dramatic staircase on the patio to make a very grand entrance from!
The gazebo is perfect for the outdoor ceremony, it has plenty of room for your groomsmen and bridesmaids to stand by your side.
The onsite wedding coordinator sure does make it a easy breezy day!

Today' weather was sunny, breezy and 70 degrees - it was beautiful for the outdoor wedding ceremony at 12:30 pm at Garden Park in Holly, Mi.
I adore Sunday wedding's, especially the afternoon or late morning schedules. They allow for a feel of casual, breezy and relaxed atmosphere. The guests arrive with smiles on their faces and the bride and groom are eager for their big day to begin!.
Once the ceremony is complete the wedding guests may enjoy a coffee or tea or iced tea while mingling and sharing the joy of the ceremony they just witnessed. When the bride and groom have joined the party lunch is enjoyed by all.
And let us not think that dancing is a no no on a Sunday wedding - oh, shoes come off and all have a great time while dancing and relaxing the afternoon away.
